Hospice care in Redlands and Loma Linda

Beta Hospice has one office, in the city of San Bernardino, about 8 to 10 miles northwest of Redlands and Loma Linda along the 10 and the 210. Care does not happen at the office. Nurses, hospice aides, social workers and chaplains come to the person's house, apartment, board-and-care home or nursing facility anywhere in the two cities, from the hospital district in Loma Linda to Mentone on the east side of Redlands.

Neighborhoods and nearby communities we serve

Redlands and Loma Linda sit side by side at the east end of the valley. These are the areas families ask about most.

Hospitals and care facilities nearby

Three hospitals serve these two cities. Redlands Community Hospital on Terracina Boulevard is an independent nonprofit hospital that has been in Redlands for more than a century. Loma Linda University Medical Center on Anderson Street is the region's university hospital. The VA Loma Linda Healthcare System on Benton Street cares for veterans from San Bernardino and Riverside counties. Many families first hear the word hospice at one of these three.

Hospice care continues at home after a hospital discharge. When a hospital team raises hospice, we work with the discharge planners so that the first nurse visit, the hospital bed and the medicines are arranged around the day the person goes home. Veterans can ask the VA team about hospice at home and then call us so we can check coverage for the situation. Read where care happens.

We care for people wherever they call home, including nursing facilities, RCFEs (residential care facilities for the elderly) and board-and-care homes, in coordination with facility staff. Redlands and Loma Linda have many assisted living communities and small board-and-care homes, and a hospice nurse visits a person there the same way the nurse visits a private house.

Medi-Cal plans in this city

Most people with Medi-Cal in San Bernardino County belong to a managed care plan. The county's Medi-Cal plans are Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and Molina Healthcare, plus Kaiser Permanente for people who meet Kaiser's rules for joining. Medi-Cal covers hospice, and when you are in a managed care plan, hospice is arranged through that plan.

These are the county's plans. Listing them here does not mean Beta Hospice has a contract with each one. Whether we are contracted with your plan is checked for each patient. Call us at (844) 646-4434 with your plan card and we will tell you where things stand before care starts.

If you have Medicare, the rules are the same in every city. Medicare covers hospice care related to the terminal illness. Under Medicare, most people pay nothing for hospice care itself. There can be a copay of up to $5 per prescription for symptom medicines and 5% of the Medicare amount for inpatient respite care. Medicare does not pay room and board where you live. Read paying for care.

Community resources

These are public services, not part of Beta Hospice. They can help with needs hospice does not cover.

  • Joslyn Senior Center, 21 Grant Street, Redlands. The City of Redlands senior center, with classes, social programs and monthly educational talks for adults 55 and older.
  • Loma Linda Senior Center. Run by the City of Loma Linda, with classes, music and a weekly blood pressure check. Call the city for current hours and location.
  • Grief support group at Redlands Community Hospital. The hospital's hospice program runs a grief support group that is open to the community without a fee or registration. Check redlandshospital.org or call the hospital for the current meeting time and place.
  • 211 San Bernardino County. Dial 2-1-1 from any phone in the county for referrals to food, housing, transportation, caregiver and utility help. Open all day, every day.
  • Senior Information and Assistance, 1-800-510-2020. The line for the county's Department of Aging and Adult Services, which is the Area Agency on Aging. It connects older adults and caregivers with meals, caregiver support and Medicare counseling (HICAP).

Spanish-speaking families

Many families in Redlands and Loma Linda speak Spanish at home. Our team includes Spanish speakers, and you can ask for Spanish when you call. Read about hospice care in Spanish, or switch this page to Spanish using the language link at the top.

Redlands and Loma Linda hospice questions

Does Beta Hospice come to homes in Redlands and Loma Linda?

Yes. Both cities are in our service area, about 8 to 10 miles from our office. The nurse, aide, social worker and chaplain come to the person's home. Nobody has to travel to us.

How fast can a nurse visit in Redlands or Loma Linda?

A hospice nurse answers the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can visit when needed. For a new referral, our standard is a response within two hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once a person is on service, visits are scheduled in the plan of care, and the nurse on call decides when an extra visit is needed.

Can hospice come to a board-and-care home in Redlands or Loma Linda?

Yes. We care for people wherever they call home, including nursing facilities, RCFEs and board-and-care homes, in coordination with facility staff. The person or their representative chooses the hospice, not the home.

Where is your office?

Our office is on North D Street in the city of San Bernardino, about 8 to 10 miles northwest of Redlands and Loma Linda. It is our only office. The address, hours and a map are on the contact page.

  • A nurse answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • You can stop hospice at any time
  • You have the right to choose your hospice
