Hospice care in the city of Riverside

Beta Hospice has one office, in the city of San Bernardino, about 12 to 15 miles northeast of downtown Riverside along the 215 and the 60. Care does not happen at the office. Nurses, hospice aides, social workers and chaplains come to the person's house, apartment, board-and-care home or nursing facility anywhere in Riverside, from the Eastside and the Wood Streets to La Sierra, Arlington and Orangecrest.

Neighborhoods and nearby communities we serve

Riverside is the county seat and one of the largest cities in the Inland Empire. These are the areas families ask about most.

Hospitals and care facilities nearby

Three hospitals serve the city. Riverside Community Hospital on Magnolia Avenue, downtown near the 60 and the 91, is the hospital most Riverside families know. Kaiser Permanente Riverside Medical Center, also on Magnolia Avenue but far to the west in La Sierra, serves Kaiser members. Parkview Community Hospital Medical Center on Jackson Street serves the Arlington side of town. Many families first hear the word hospice from a doctor or case manager at one of them.

Hospice care continues at home after a hospital discharge. When a hospital team raises hospice, we work with the discharge planners so that the first nurse visit, the hospital bed and the medicines are arranged around the day the person goes home. If the person has Kaiser, ask the Kaiser team about hospice choices and then call us so we can check coverage for your situation. Read where care happens.

We care for people wherever they call home, including nursing facilities, RCFEs (residential care facilities for the elderly) and board-and-care homes, in coordination with facility staff. Riverside has many small six-bed board-and-care homes in ordinary neighborhoods, especially on the Arlington and La Sierra side, and a hospice nurse visits a person there the same way the nurse visits a private house.

Medi-Cal plans in this city

Most people with Medi-Cal in Riverside County belong to a managed care plan. The county's Medi-Cal plans are Inland Empire Health Plan (IEHP) and Molina Healthcare, the same two plans as San Bernardino County, plus Kaiser Permanente for people who meet Kaiser's rules for joining. Medi-Cal covers hospice, and when you are in a managed care plan, hospice is arranged through that plan.

These are the county's plans. Listing them here does not mean Beta Hospice has a contract with each one. Whether we are contracted with your plan is checked for each patient. Call us at (844) 646-4434 with your plan card and we will tell you where things stand before care starts.

If you have Medicare, the rules are the same in every city. Medicare covers hospice care related to the terminal illness. Under Medicare, most people pay nothing for hospice care itself. There can be a copay of up to $5 per prescription for symptom medicines and 5% of the Medicare amount for inpatient respite care. Medicare does not pay room and board where you live. Read paying for care.

Community resources

These are public services, not part of Beta Hospice. They can help with needs hospice does not cover.

  • Janet Goeske Center, 5257 Sierra Street. The city's senior center for adults 55 and older, run with the Janet Goeske Foundation, with programs, classes, activities and events.
  • 211 Riverside County. Dial 2-1-1 from any phone in the county, or call 1-800-464-1123, for referrals to food, housing, transportation, caregiver and utility help. Open all day, every day, with Spanish and other languages.
  • Riverside County Office on Aging Senior HelpLink, 1-800-510-2020. The county's Area Agency on Aging. Its information and assistance specialists connect older adults and caregivers with meals, caregiver support and health insurance counseling for Medicare questions.
  • In-Home Supportive Services (IHSS). A county-run Medi-Cal program that can pay for a caregiver's hours at home. IHSS is separate from hospice and the two can be used together.

Spanish-speaking families

Many families in Riverside speak Spanish at home. Our team includes Spanish speakers, and you can ask for Spanish when you call. Read about hospice care in Spanish, or switch this page to Spanish using the language link at the top.

Riverside hospice questions

Does Beta Hospice come to homes in the city of Riverside?

Yes. All of Riverside is in our service area, and downtown is about 12 to 15 miles from our office. The nurse, aide, social worker and chaplain come to the person's home. Nobody has to travel to us.

How fast can a nurse visit in Riverside?

A hospice nurse answers the phone 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and can visit when needed. For a new referral, our standard is a response within two hours, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Once a person is on service, visits are scheduled in the plan of care, and the nurse on call decides when an extra visit is needed.

Can hospice come to a board-and-care home in Riverside?

Yes. We care for people wherever they call home, including nursing facilities, RCFEs and board-and-care homes, in coordination with facility staff. The person or their representative chooses the hospice, not the home.

Where is your office?

Our office is on North D Street in the city of San Bernardino, about 14 miles by road from downtown Riverside. It is our only office. The address, hours and a map are on the contact page.

Sources

These sources support the general information on this page. For one person’s care and coverage, talk with the hospice team.

You do not have to decide alone.

Call (844) 646-4434 any time, or leave your number and someone from Beta's hospice team will call you. No decision is needed to call. Most families start with a question.

Only a hospice doctor, together with the person’s own doctor, can confirm hospice eligibility. A website cannot.

  • A nurse answers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week
  • You can stop hospice at any time
  • You have the right to choose your hospice

If this is an emergency, call 911.

Fields marked with a star are required.

Please do not include medical details here. We will ask by phone. This form does not enroll anyone in hospice. Choosing hospice is always the patient's decision.
